When recording, they happily give artists the freedom to try out their sweet collection of vintage amplifiers, drum kits and various instruments. “We try to steer clear of the stock music sound.” Theresa, a bassoonist, picked up the tricks of the trade just by watching and doing it along the way. “We use real people and real instruments,” Theresa said of their songwriting and recording. It’s a collaboration really, noted Theresa, who spends hours writing songs in a small corner loft above the studio. One of their recording artists sang the song, which makes them special, she said. She says she drew the song from her inner Kelly Clarkson. Apocalypse cow movie movie#Theresa, 31, wrote “Flashbulbs,” a song that is on the Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 movie soundtrack. They even landed a song in a recent Disney film. They’ve written dozens, if not hundreds, of songs for TV, film, games and more. Jeffrey and Theresa met when they were both learning guitar. Jeffrey’s wife, Theresa, is part of the crew - laying down tracks and setting up mics. Now the brothers record area musicians like Greg Boerner (who happens to be sitting at the kitchen table) and other local talent in their parents' soundproof converted garage. Their sons, Jeffrey and Dan, built the studio bit by bit while in high school and eventually it was just too nice they had too much invested to move it out of their parent’s house. The professional recording studio has resided in the Brooks' Boulder Hill home for just over a decade. It’s a hidden gem for local musicians that goes unnoticed by neighbors. Step beyond Gene and Kathy Brook’s manicured front lawn and quaint country kitchen and into the sound studios of Apocalypse Cow. Wouldn’t it be cool if respected local musicians hung out at your parent’s house and discussed Ray Charles at the kitchen table? ![]()
